MEET THE 2018 LIBERTARIAN CANDIDATES IN HARRISBURG THIS SUNDAY, 8/12
HARRISBURG, PA – This Sunday, Ken Krawchuk, the Libertarian candidate for Governor, will join numerous other Libertarian candidates for a “Meet the Candidates” rally introducing Pennsylvania’s 2018 Libertarian candidates. The rally will be held on the steps of the Capitol Rotunda in Harrisburg starting at 1 PM on Sunday, August 12, 2018, followed by a 6 PM reception at the Capitol Gastropub, 310 North 2nd Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. Both events are free and open to the public.
The approximate schedule of events for the day includes:
1 PM – Meet and greet on the Capitol steps
1:30 PM – Pennsylvania Libertarian Party Secretary Steven Brenize
1:40 PM – State Representative candidates
2:30 PM – Libertarian congressional candidates
3:10 PM – Lieutenant Governor candidate Kathy Smith
3:30 PM – Gubernatorial candidate Ken Krawchuk
4:15 PM – U.S. Senate candidate Dale Kerns
6 PM –Food, drinks, fun and games at the Capitol Gastropub
10 PM – Closing
The State Representative candidates include Marc Bozzacco (153rd), David Medina (162nd), Jim Miller (98th), Joe Solowski (81st), and John Waldenberger (53rd). Congressional candidates include Steve Scheetz (1st) and Tim Silfies (7th). They are part of the 18 candidates fielded by the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania who qualified for the November ballot in 2018. Krawchuk, 65, is an Information Technology entrepreneur from Abington, Pa. He has appeared on the gubernatorial ballot twice before, facing Democrat Ed Rendell in 2002 and Republican Tom Ridge in 1998. Smith is a retired retail merchant from Canonsburg, Pa, and has served two terms on her local school board, one of them as board president. Because of Pennsylvania’s onerous ballot access laws, Krawchuk is the first third party or independent gubernatorial candidate to appear on the Pennsylvania ballot since 2002. His return to politics comes on the heels of his federal court victory in 2016 that ruled unconstitutional the $80,000+ fines that have been levied against statewide candidates who are unsuccessful in their attempt to appear on the November ballot.
Founded in 1971, the Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the state and the nation, with over 150 elected and appointed officials currently serving in office nationwide, and 40 in Pennsylvania. Libertarians are fiscally conservative and socially liberal, and like the Founding Fathers, Libertarians believe that you have the inalienable right to conduct your life as you see fit, without interference, so long as you respect the rights and property of others.
